Passing of KGMS Founder Anne Rushforth

We are so sorry to inform you that the founder of our school has died.  Forty years ago, Anne Rushforth took the first step in establishing a school that met the needs of children like our own. A registered nurse by training, she immersed herself in what was then known about how children like ours learn.  From the start, she emphasized a phonics based reading program, the use of multi-sensory techniques, daily one-on-one tutoring and the development of self-confidence.  As you know, these are core to the school’s learning environment today.

Recently, Anne was the subject of a video in honour of our school’s fortieth year.  It was screened at our recent Gala and can be viewed below.

Affordability was important to Anne.  Recently, we had only begun to discuss developing an award in her name to assist families with tuition.  We did not get the opportunity to discuss the award with Anne.  As we work out the details of the award, to honour Anne’s memory, please consider donating to it.  Send your cheque to the attention of Carrie Baker or drop it off with either Shellie Bartnik or Katherine Harris.
